The Nurse as a Dental Team Member

Nurses and school nurses at the Elementary
 School level have a special relationship with
students and their families. You know their
medical background and special needs.  School nurses work with the teaching staff, parents and students is an important foundation for the ability of students to learn and perform well in class.

 
  • Dental disease can be devastating to a child’s well being and learning environment. 
  • Being in pain can create barriers to learning that can be rectified with teamwork between the teacher, parents, school nurse, and a dental professional.
  • Students often come to you in
    pain from untreated dental
    issues. 

  • School nurses are often the
    best
    friend in a child’s life
    who can work
    with parents to elevate their awareness of the problem.

  • You often have contacts for assistance/resources when needed.
  • Be the coordinator for getting the information with impact to the members of the faculty best suited to team with you
    in helping your student population
